No results found.Access to food in markets is hindered by high food prices, conflicts and civil insecurity: during the reporting period (May-August), sorghum (Feterita) prices increased by 20% in Khartoum. Between August and September the number of food insecure people has dramatically increased to 4.5 million; agencies agree that the food security situation is critical. Conflicts in Abyei, South Kordofan and Blue Nile are causing massive displacements, but restrictions on access severely limited humanitar ian organisations' response. International agencies call for urgent action to prevent a looming humanitarian and food crisis in the two strife-affected regions of Blue Nile and South Kordofan. FAO is distributing vegetable seeds and tools to vulnerable households. -

No results found.Prices of rice and wheat remained stable however, experienced some fluctuation in November and December. The overall food security situation is favorable however, due to low cereal production, it remains a concern in certain districts in Mid-Western Mountain and Mid-Western Hill. Natural calamities have affected people's food security in recent months; moreover the political situation remains tense. The Government has in place several safety net schemes to support vulnerable groups; the in ternational community is also helping to assist people affected by natural disasters. -

No results found.Maize prices were slightly higher; nevertheless levels remained steady during most of 2011. The overall food security situation remains stable; however the peak of the lean season in January/February together with the high prices, constrained food access for the low income households. Food security conditions are likely to worsen by the late onset of erratic rains in December affecting the agricultural campaign particularly in some northeastern and southern areas. The Government continues the targeted distribution of input packages to expand households' production together with food distributions in some districts.
