Synopsis (short abstract) The Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program is the unique Nespresso sourcing approach developed to secure the highest quality green coffee required to produce the Nespresso Grand Cru coffees, while protecting the environment and enhancing farmer welfare. Launched in 2003 in collaboration with the NGO the Rainforest Alliance, the program implements a vision of sustainability: one that, based on quality, integrates the spheres of environmental conservation, social equity and economic viability , with the aim of creating long-term shared value.

This leaflet aims to inform policy decision makers about successful farmer experiences in managing coffee pests without the insecticide endosulfan. It demonstrates that phasing out of Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) in favor of safe and cost-effective alternatives is entirely possible - on large estates and small family farms. The findings also serve as useful generic lessons for governments, farmers and other stakeholders on how improve chemicals management and promote sustainable agricultur e in the context of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) conventions.
