No results found.This paper assesses if the production of various food items translates to improved consumption of varied food groups using data from the annual knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) survey of 2020 which was conducted in ten districts of Chitipa, Karonga, Mzimba, Nkhatabay in the northern region, Nkhotakota, Salima, Kasungu in the central region, and Chiradzulu, Thyolo, Mulanje in the southern region of Malawi. It concludes that households meeting the minimum dietary diversity remain low and varied by region and that meeting the minimum dietary diversity was significantly correlated with production of various food items such as ownership of livestock and backyard farming, even after accounting for the other factors. The results further showed production of the various food items was associated with increased consumption of the food items except production of poultry or chicken which did not lead to consumption of eggs. -

No results found.An account of the consultation at the FAO regional office in Bangkok from 20 to 23 November 2001, which was attended by representatives of Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vanuatu and Viet Nam. The experts reviewed progress by countries in the region toward implementing food based dietary guidelines to assist in the choice of the right kind and right amount of food by people in Asia-Pacific countries. The past two decades have seen a size able increase in food production and consumption in the region, but the average diet still lacks dietary diversity, giving rise to micronutrient malnutrition and widespread protein energy malnutrition. The publication includes country presentations at the session and the recommendations that emerged from it for national action and to guide FAO's future work in this field. It also includes a section on the implementation of FAO's unique nutrition education endeavour - Feeding Minds, Fighting Hung er, a partnership of schools, governments, inter-governmental organizations, nutrition experts and non-governmental organizations. -

It also encourages the family members to read the handbook and apply the suggested actions for improving the dietary diversity of the family, especially that of women and children.

The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.
