Most conventional retailers have now introduced organic products and many supermarket chains are creating in-house labels for their own lines of these products. The organic sector responds to the need of a group of generally well-educated and economically well-off consumers. The mai n motivation to buy organic food products is linked to health and environmental concerns, but life-style and quality aspects are also increasingly important drivers of consumers’choices. -

The MedAquaMarket project was funded by the Government of Spain (Secretaria General de Pesca, Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación). Based on fifteen national country reports and other relevant sources of information, it provides an overview of the status and trends of the marine aquaculture industry in the Mediterranean region and its markets. -

No results found.In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic profoundly shook the aquatic products industry, impacting production, demand, and prices. The fisheries and aquaculture sectors faced challenges such as diminished demand from major buyers, disrupted sales of premium seafood, and hampered fish trade due to border closures. Prices plummeted by 20 to 30 percent in certain regions. To address such vulnerabilities, a study proposes policy objectives to bolster the sector's readiness for pandemics and unforeseen crises, incorporating insights from industry stakeholders. The "Fisheries & Aquaculture Sectoral Preparedness and Response to COVID-19" project in Türkiye strives to develop an emergency response plan, emphasizing improved adaptability and responsiveness to current and future disruptions. Deliverables include a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan and a strategic Seafood Market Expansion initiative. Furthermore, a subregional public awareness campaign under Output 2 targets students to aid in the recovery of the domestic market.
