However, pulses, and legumes in general, play an equally important role in soil health maintenance and improvement. The benefits of pulses are often underappreciated and therefore the United Nations General Assembly declared 2016 as the International Year of Pulses to highlight the role of pulses in healthy diets and their contribution to soil health and the environment. This publication reports on the activities and results of the International Year of Pulses. It aims to motivate relevant stakeholders to continue working with these important crops and also is a useful reference for researches, policy-makers and donors.
