No results found.This multidimensional solutions strategy for reducing the losses in the artisanal fisheries sector in Tumaco, Colombia is a comprehensive and multi-sectorial related approach aimed at addressing the challenges and maximizing the potential of the fisheries sector in Colombia. It aims to tackle the significant losses incurred with a strong emphasis on promoting responsible use of fisheries resources for sustainable development. This strategy is designed based on the robust foundation of updated research findings on extent of the fish losses, extensive engagement of stakeholders, and a thorough understanding of the underlying causes and impacts of food loss and waste (FLW). By implementing this strategy, we seek to enhance the efficiency, resilience, and profitability of the artisanal fisheries sector in Tumaco, Colombia while minimizing environmental impacts and ensuring food security that is the objective of the Component 5 of the project GCP/GLO/352/NOR. -

No results found.The fish loss assessment was conducted under Component 5 of the global Norad-funded project “Responsible use of Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources for Sustainable Development” (GCP/GLO/352/NOR). It contributes to SDG 2 and SDG 12 and the Priority Programme Area on Better Nutrition 4 (BN4): Reducing food loss and waste.Food loss and waste (FLW) is a manifestation of poorly functioning food systems. Providing appropriate solutions to FLW in the aquatic food value chains is hampered by the lack of robust evidence-based data. The results of the fish loss assessments will contribute to addressing the root causes of significant losses while applying a broader and holistic approach to FLW solutions.

Urbanization, agrifood systems transformation and healthy diets across the rural–urban continuum
2023This report provides an update on global progress towards the targets of ending hunger (SDG Target 2.1) and all forms of malnutrition (SDG Target 2.2) and estimates on the number of people who are unable to afford a healthy diet. Since its 2017 edition, this report has repeatedly highlighted that the intensification and interaction of conflict, climate extremes and economic slowdowns and downturns, combined with highly unaffordable nutritious foods and growing inequality, are pushing us off track to meet the SDG 2 targets. However, other important megatrends must also be factored into the analysis to fully understand the challenges and opportunities for meeting the SDG 2 targets. One such megatrend, and the focus of this year’s report, is urbanization. New evidence shows that food purchases in some countries are no longer high only among urban households but also among rural households. Consumption of highly processed foods is also increasing in peri-urban and rural areas of some countries. These changes are affecting people’s food security and nutrition in ways that differ depending on where they live across the rural–urban continuum. This timely and relevant theme is aligned with the United Nations General Assembly-endorsed New Urban Agenda, and the report provides recommendations on the policies, investments and actions needed to address the challenges of agrifood systems transformation under urbanization and to enable opportunities for ensuring access to affordable healthy diets for everyone. -

No results found.The Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA) was established at COP23 to address six topics in the agricultural sector's role in climate change. KJWA has contributed to sharing scientific and technical knowledge, but limitations remain in translating outcomes into concrete climate actions. The new four-year joint work on the implementation of climate action on agriculture and food security, which prioritizes ending hunger and considers national circumstances, includes the creation of an online portal for sharing information. The four-year agenda is shaped and broadened through the submission of views by parties, observers, and civil society and will be considered by SBSTA and SBI in June 2023. -

No results found.This report illustrates the food loss assessment studies undertaken along the maize, sunflower and beans supply chains in Uganda in 2015-16 and 2016-17. They aimed to identify the critical loss points in the selected supply chains, the key stages at which food losses occur, why they occur, the extent and impact of food losses and the economic, social and environmental implications of the food losses. Furthermore, these studies also evaluated the feasibility of potential interventions to reduce food losses and waste.
