No results found. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is staying and delivering in Ukraine, and ongoing work has been pivoted to scale up the humanitarian response. FAO has been providing humanitarian support, including cash and agricultural inputs, to rural families in eastern parts of the country since 2015. On 7 March 2022, FAO launched a Rapid Response Plan for Ukraine, seeking USD 50 million to assist 240 000 vulnerable rural people affected by the war. FAO’s first priority is to ensure that rural households can continue to access food for the coming months and, to the extent possible, plant in time for the upcoming spring season. -

Preliminary results from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) monitoring system show a worsening trend in food security, especially in oblasts with active ongoing fighting and those with the highest numbers of displaced people. Within those hosting significant populations of internally displaced people, 20 percent of host households lack cash to meet their basic food needs and cover bills, and on average 80 percent are resorting to various coping mechanisms and incurring debts. FAO requires USD 115.4 million to assist 981 627 people in rural areas until the end of December. To date, FAO has raised USD 8.4 million to reach 70 941 people with livelihoods support. With more resources, FAO will be able to reach more people in time for the spring season. This support is needed urgently. -

No results found. This document provides an up-to-date summary of the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and the response of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on the ground. The revised Rapid Response Plan (RRP) of FAO requires USD 115.4 million to assist 979 320 people in rural areas through December 2022. Furthermore, to address the grain storage crisis, FAO has developed a Grain Storage Support Strategy (GSSS), requiring an additional USD 65 million, as an extension of the RRP, to deploy 4.07 million tonnes of storage capacity in Ukraine – 25 percent of the estimated overall need. In addition, the strategy will strengthen government capacity for food commodity testing and certifications necessary for export at border facilities. To date, FAO has raised USD 73.6 million against the total of USD 180.4 million under the RRP and GSSS, leaving a gap of USD 106.8 million, which are urgently needed to support vulnerable households and increase agricultural production in rural areas. FAO continues to work on the ground in Ukraine with a team of over 95 members, including technical and operational personnel deployed to support the scale‑up.
