No results found.The term ciguatera refers to poisoning caused by the consumption of certain reef fish and shellfish from tropical and subtropical regions, especially the South Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean Sea between the latitudes of 35°N and 35°S. Through the food chain, these fish and shellfish accumulate ciguatoxins (CTXs) produced by dinoflagellates of the genera Gambierdiscus and Fukuyoa, which attach to algae growing in warm ocean reef areas. Ciguatera poisoning (CP) is the most significant non-bacterial poisoning associated with fish consumption worldwide, producing over 175 gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and neurological symptoms. No specific treatment exists and the fatality rate may, in some contexts, exceed 10 percent, often following cardiovascular incidents or central nervous system complications. Among the causes of the increase in cases of ciguatera is climate change. As storms and hurricanes become more frequent, the temperature of the sea’s surface rises, affecting the distribution and proliferation of CTXs and making the occurrence of CP more difficult to predict. -

No results found.The main objective of the marketing strategy for canned seafood products to be produced by the Integrated Fisheries Project (IFP) of the Government of India is to popularize such products to a wider consume.r group in the Indian domestic market than is possible by the private sector at the present time, so that a large canning industry can be based on, and optimum use made of, the pelagic fish resources of India. A secondary aim is to provide samples for prospective exports but the limited produ ction capacity cannot expect to fill export orders. -

The growth of the sector has largely been spearheaded by start-ups, many of which claim to be providing an ethical and sustainable alternative to farmed and wild-caught seafood. As the sector evolves, it is now also beginning to attract the attention of corporate food producers. Currently, plant-based seafood is not widespread globally, with the bulk of producers being based in high-income countries. Most consumers can source traditional seafood at lower prices than plant-based products. If this business model does not change, this niche sector may struggle to penetrate the mass market.
