Synopsis (short abstract) Creating more and better jobs in agrifood systems starts with growth, competitiveness and investment. Investing in the agricultural workforce is key to maximizing the full potential of investments that boost productivity, inclusion, value addition and resilience across agrifood systems. The FAO Investment Centre connects these dimensions by ensuring physical and financial investments are matched with investments in people. It integrates human capital and job creation into operations, aligning skills with market demand and connecting growth with inclusion. This work draws on FAO’s technical expertise and data, and the Centre’s investment experience in over 120 countries – aligned with FAO’s Four Betters.

    The Investment Centre acts as a bridge between countries and financing partners to create the enabling conditions for greater public and private investment to accelerate the transformationto more sustainable agrifood systems. It works in around 120 countries with an ever-expanding network of financing institutions, including the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the European InvestmentBank (EIB) and the European Commission. Its growing multidisciplinary team draws from FAO’s vast technical, policy and analytical expertise to provide countries with tailored, innovative and scalable investment and finance solutions.

    The project’s overall aim is to contribute to the sustainable achievement of food security among rural Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanian hosts, by enhancing their capacity to successfully participate in efficient sustainable Agri-food systems and building their capacities for decent work opportunities as well as advocating for food waste reduction which has a profound effect on sustainbility,food security and rural development through training sessions. As such the project will address the capacity building, assets, financing, and employment needs of the targeted beneficiaries, through a series of activities related to capacity enhancement, asset distribution, access to micro-financing, access to markets, and job creation. The reader of this factsheet will be able to have an overall idea about the project's objectives, impact, activities and outputs in both English and Arabic. يهدف المشروع الى المساهمة في تحقيق الأمن الغذائي بشكل مستدام بين اللاجئين السوريين والمجتمعات الأردنية المضيفة في الريف من خلال تعزيز قدرتهم على المشاركة بنجاح في أنظمة الأغذية الزراعية المستدامة الفعالة وبناء قدراتهم من خلال برنامج تدريبي متكامل لخلق فرص عمل لائقة وكذلك الدعوة إلى الحد من هدر الاغذية والذي له تأثير عميق على الاستدامة والأمن الغذائي والتنمية الريفية. على هذا النحو، سيعالج المشروع احتياجات بناء القدرات والتمويل والتوظيف للمستفيدين، من خلال سلسلة من الأنشطة المتعلقة بتعزيز القدرات وتوزيع الأدوات والوصول إلى التمويل الصغير و إلى الأسواق وخلق فرص العمل. سيتمكن القارئ من تكوين فكرة شاملة عن أهداف المشروع وتأثيره وأنشطته ومخرجاته باللغتين الإنجليزية والعربية.

    The global landscape study on ‘Green finance as a critical lever for delivering sustainable agrifood system’ is an inclusive commentary on the current status of green finance to agrifood sector in the global south and its support system. This document provides evidence that the current green finance trends favour the development of the clean energy industry, whereas smallholder agriculture has not had the same success. Financing the agrifood sector in a “business as usual” mode is not a sufficient condition to mitigate the risks emanated from a range of climatic shocks and unprecedented events impacting the global food value chains. Sustainable financing mechanisms through innovative instruments and business practices are potential solutions and green finance emerges as the way forward to shift the focus from economic profit creation to the generation of stakeholder’s value (economic, environmental, and social governance). The document presents an excellent opportunity that can help elicit ongoing initiatives, application mechanisms, and significant issues to build global narratives about developing an inclusive approach to green finance services for the agrifood sector.
