Santiago de Compostela, España, 30 de mayo-2 de junio de 2006 2006At its sixteenth session, the Committee on Fisheries decided to establish a Sub-Committee on Fish Trade to serve as a multilateral framework for consultations on international trade in fishery products. The tenth session of the Sub-Committee was held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from 30 May to 2 June 2006. The Sub-Committee took note of recent developments concerning international trade in fishery products. It also considered specific issues related to international trade and sustai nable fisheries development, including: safety and quality of fishery products, traceability and labelling of fishery products, draft Technical Guidelines for Responsible Fish Trade, fish trade and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, harmonization of catch documentation, fish trade and small-scale fisheries, fish trade and food security, rehabilitation and reconstruction of fisheries in tsunami affected countries. In its capacity as the International Commodity Body for Fishery Products, the Sub-Committee approved an updated commodity strategy and endorsed two project proposals for funding by the Common Fund for Commodities.

No results found.The third session of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) Committee on Aquaculture (CAQ) met in Zaragoza, Spain, from 25 to 27 September 2002 and was attended by delegates from ten Members of the Commission. The Session reviewed the status of aquaculture in the region and the activities of the networks linked to the Committee. The Committee approved the proposed workplans of the networks and acknowledged the need to strengthen collaboration with relevant national and re gional organizations. The importance of information exchange was addressed and it was recommended that regular aquaculture reports covering production and marketing trends be undertaken and published. Discussions on the proposed work programme were linked to the GFCM autonomous budget. The Committee emphasized that the forecast of CAQ expenditure within the Autonomous budget would need to be reviewed. CAQ endorsed the recommendation of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to establish a joint SAC/CAQ/ICCAT Ad Hoc Working Group on Sustainable Tuna Farming/Fattening Practices in the Mediterranean. The Committee discussed the regional aquaculture project idea adopted at its Second Session and agreed that a revised project proposal be prepared. -

No results found.The third session of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) met in Madrid, Spain, from 2 to 5 May 2000 and was attended by delegates from fourteen out of twenty-two Members of the Commission. The main issues discussed during the meeting were the reports of the four Sub-Committees that met from 25 to 29 April 2000. The Scientific Advisory Committee reviewed the recommendations made by its subsidiary bodies including the Working Groups on Small P elagics and on Demersal Species, as well as the conclusions of the GFCM/ICCAT Joint Working Group on Large Pelagics. The Committee agreed on a programme of work for the intersessional period and formulated some recommendations for consideration by the Commission. The two regional projects, COPEMED and ADRIAMED, presented their progress reports and programme of work for the future. The Committee reviewed the activities of the two projects and recommended actions to be undertaken as well as issues to be considered by them.

FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan organized the International Conference on Development of Organic Agriculture in Central Asia during 22-24 August 2017 within the framework the project TCP/UZB/3501. The major objectives were to bring together experiences in Central Asian and neighboring countries, discuss locally adapted systems and best practices and finally to initiate a network to allow future cooperation. The Conference was attended by researchers, extensionists, representative of civil society organizations, farmers’ organizations and private companies as well as practitioners. The Proceedings of the Conference aims to compile the data collected during the Conference and archive for future. The Proceeding of the Conference will surely provide the initial informationn to promote further collaboration between countries, institutions, research and practices and producers and traders. As mentioned in the Final Declaration of the Conference, we hope that this platform and the initiative will be further supported and repeated in the coming years. -

No results found.The workshop report provides a summary of the presentations, discussions, conclusions and recommendations of the workshop on The Implications of Social Farming for Rural Poverty Reduction. The goal of the workshop was to explore the possible contribution of Social Farming to rural poverty reduction through rural women’s economic empowerment, decent rural employment creation and social protection. Presentations were made by ILO; Oxfam International and UNRISD on related activities, as well as by social farming practicioners from Colombia, Tanzania and Italy. The findings of the conceptual background paper on Social Farming and its role in rural poverty reduction prepared by FAO and the University of Pisa were also presented. The Report gives account also of the results of the working groups organized duriong the workshop, that focused on the different aspects on how social farming can be supported in development context. Finally, it includes useful recommendations on how social farmi ng can be linked to employment, women's empowerment and social protection programmes and what can be FAO's role together with partners in supporing social farming activities in the field.
