1. FAOSTAT is an on-line, multilingual database with over 4 million time-series records covering international statistics in the areas of: agricultural production, agricultural trade, food balance sheets, fertilizer and pesticides, land use and irrigation, forest products, fishery products, population, agricultural machinery, food quality control and food aid shipments.
2. FAOSTAT is the leading component of FAO’s information systems, contributing to the organization’s strategic objective of collecting, analysing, interpreting and dissemination information relating to nutrition, food and agriculture and is at the core of the World Agriculture Information centre (WAICENT) through which access is given to FAO’s vast store of information on agricultural and food topics.
3. The presentation will provide an overview of the FAOSTAT system, with examples of the use of statistical information stored in the database being provided.
