PREPARATION OF THIS DOCUMENT
There is a frequent need for reliable methods of approximating the potential fish production of inland water bodies for management and development purposes. One such method which has been investigated in North America relies on an empirical relationship of catch to a “Morpho-Edaphic Index” and its use in African countries has also been proposed based on preliminary data from a few lakes. This occasional paper evaluates the relationship for a greater number (31) of African lakes and reservoirs, and considers also the effect of fishing effort on recorded catches.
