This document is a report of the fourth meeting of the Advisory Committee of the programme “Development of Small- Scale Fisheries in the Bay of Bengal”. It was hosted by the Government of Thailand, and held in Phuket, Thailand, from November 27 to 30, 1979. The report records the deliberations and the conclusions of the meeting and was approved by the committee. The document includes a summary of progress made in the first year of operation and outlines of future work. It therefore serves as a source of reference to officials of the countries concerned and might be of interest to other agencies and people engaged in smallscale fisheries development particularly in the Bay of Bengal area. “Development of Small-Scale Fisheries in the Bay of Bengal”, GCP/RAS/040/SWE, is a regional FAO programme funded by the Swedish International Development Authority (SIDA) and ‘executed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Five countries are members -- Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The Programme’s Advisory Committee is composed of representatives of the five member-countries, FAO and SIDA. The committee meets once a year. Earlier meetings were held in Colombo (1976), Madras (1977), and Chittagong (1978). |
