2. FIELD EVALUATION OF THE PROJECT SITE
3. PRELIMINARY TAXONOMIC STUDY AND AGAR PROCESSING
Preliminary site evaluation assessment for seaweed farming was carried out at project area Sorsogon. Site evaluation were conducted at sites of four municipalities, namely Prieto-Diaz, Gubat, Matnog and Barcelona. These sites represent three different seaweed habitats such as: sandy reef flats, rocky reef with sandy patches and sandy-muddy flats within bays with freshwater influence. On preliminary taxonomic examination, seven species of Gracilaria were recognised. These are: G. changii (=G. cylindrica). G. fastigiata, G. firma, G. salicornia, G. tenuistipitata, G. eucheumoides and G. coronopifolia.
