Abstract

The seminar on the constitution of the “Environment and Aquaculture in the Mediterranean” (EAM) was held on June 14–15, 1993, in accordance with the recommendations of the Steering Committee meeting of Tirana.

The Network Document presented during the constitution seminar of EAM Network served as a basis for discussions.

The project coordinator introduced the basic principles of the EAM Network, proposing that a working group be held in September to elaborate a specific programme of activities for 1994–95, to be submitted to MEDRAP II Steering Committee fourth session, and to the Contracting Parties' Meeting of MAP.

The Representative of UNEP-MAP-PAP/RAC introduced the structures and rules of procedure and mentioned that the implementation of EAM Network would have to follow UNEP rules.

The meeting then discussed the priority topics and agreed on the following:

As a general recommendation, the meeting asked the Project Coordinator to revise and redraft the Network Document in line with th recommendations and discussions of the seminar.

Acknowledgements

The Editor would like to thank the MAP-PAP/RAC Director, Mr. Arsen Pavasovic and the UNEP Staff who assisted in the organisation of the meeting at the UNEP premises in Athens.

The Editor would like also to thank the participants and the experts for their contribution and the Representatives of the Coordinating Institution, namely MAP-PAP/RAC and FAO delegates.

Note from the reviser

The revision and publication of this document could only be done a long time after the closure of the project. This has led to some difficulties in finalising the documents and implementing corrections, because authors and contributors as well as some of the original material or files were no longer available.

Therefore contributions from participants and session papers annexed to most of the documents were left in their original form. No language corrections were introduced, the content was not modified and left under their respective authors' responsibility.

Considering the above, we hope that the reader will understand that a standard of publication could not be maintained on a level as high as we would have liked it to be.
