Abstract
The seminar on the System of Information for the Promotion of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean, held in Tunis on April 1–2, 1993, is aimed at the implementation of SIPAM network.
A Network Document was presented to the participants for review and discussion. Mr. Coppola, the conceptual Designer of the system, introduced the outline and the methodology of the system, stressing out the importance of a pragmatic approach to be adopted for the delivery of services.
A working group composed of the countries selected to start up the SIPAM Project met parallely to the seminar, to study the technical aspects of the system. The mentioned countries were : Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Portugal, Tunisia and turkey.
After review of the Network Document, several amendments have been approved to be introduced in the final document to be submitted to the Steering Committee for adoption.
The seminar recommended the following :
- SIPAM would be managed by MEDRAP Coordinator,
- The legal aspects concerning the utilisation of copyrights and other protected documents should be studied and negotiated by the Project Manager in association with FAO Legal Office. association with FAO Legal Office.
- The countries interested in benefit from services and/or activities of SIPAM should notify the Project Manager of their interest to join the SIPAM Project before the end of the first phase.

The Editor would like to thank the Tunisian Authorities, namely H.E. the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mouldi Zouaoui, who emphasized by his presence the full support of the Tunisian Government to the Project in general and to the promotion of the sector in particular; and the National Coordinator, Mr.Bechir Tritar for the remarkable help and assistance he had provided for the organisation of the Seminar.

Note from the reviser
The revision and publication of this document could be done a long time after the closure of the project. This has led to some difficulties in finalising the documents and implementing corrections, because authors and contributors as well as some of the original material or files were no longer available.
Therefore contribution from participants and session papers annexed to most of the documents were left in their original form. No language corrections were introduced, the content was not modified and left under their respective authors' responsibility.
Considering the above, we hope that the reader will understand that a standard of publication could not be maintained on a level as high as we would have liked it to be.
