Synopsis (short abstract) Brazil successfully reduced fumonisin levels in maize by implementing the Codex Code of practice for the prevention and reduction of mycotoxin contamination in cereals, resulting in significant improvements in food safety and maize export quality and value. Brazil became the third–largest producer and second–largest exporter of maize worldwide. The case study attributes this to the establishment of national maximum levels and the utilization of the code of practice to support them.
