No results found.Inadequate fruit and vegetable intake is a substantial contributor to the international burden of disease. Low fruit and vegetable intake is ranked among the leading dietary risk factors for mortality across low, middle, and high-income countries. But food decisions are complex. As a result, the reasons why people do not eat enough fruits and vegetables are complex. This paper, prepared as a contribution and input to the the FAO/WHO international workshop on fruits and vegetables 2020, reviews the challenges, opportunities and recommendations to develop effective policies and programmes promoting fruits and vegetables, from production to comsumption. -

No results found.The International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV) 2021 Global Action Plan was elaborated and agreed upon by the IYFV International Steering Committee. The activities contained in this plan have been developed along the four main lines of action for this year: 1. Advocacy and Awareness Raising; 2. Knowledge Creation and Dissemination; 3. Policy Making; and 4. Capacity Development and Education. The Annex includes a list of additional activities developed and agreed by the IYFV International Steering Committee in line with the Lines of Action for the Year, but which were not included in the Global Action Plan for reasons including lack of funding and actions suggested for implementation at national and local level. However, this list could serve as a resource for potential partners who are interested in contributing to the Year. -

No results found.At its 74th session, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2021 the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV). The primary role of the food and the agriculture sector is to adequately feed people by increasing the availability, affordability and consumption of varied, safe and nutritious foods that are in line with dietary recommendations and environmental sustainability. In this way, the IYFV is a unique opportunity to raise awareness on the important role of fruits and vegetables in human nutrition, food security and health and as well in achieving the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These guidelines were designed to support all stakeholders that want to take part in activities and events related to the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV). Therefore, for consistency, when using the IYFV visual identity you must always comply with these guidelines.
