FAO/IPCC Expert meeting on land use, climate change and food security 2017

One hundred scientists, economists and policy experts participated in a three-day expert meeting (EM) to engage in a high-level, globally oriented, and multidisciplinary scoping of topics that climate change to land use and food security. The EM was structured around five themes: climate impacts and human-directed drivers of land change and linkages to food security; mitigation and adaptation options; and policies for resource management, smallholder resilience, mitigation and food and nutrition security. The present report offers a comprehensive synthesis of the EM findings and conclusions reflecting the collective view participants and external reviewers. The report is a valuable source for the IPCC above-mentioned Special Report, especially in relation to food security, as well to researchers and policy makers concerned with the policy implication of food security in relation to post-Paris climate action and Agenda 2030.

The Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Tracking Tool user manual emphasizes the context behind developing the NDC Tracking Tool, its structure, methodological approach, and step-by-step guidance on how to install and use the tool. This Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Nationally Determined Contributions Tracking Tool is an Excel-based, easy-to-use tool, which is designed to facilitate countries in collecting the information required to track progress made in implementing and achieving their NDCs. Based on the information available in each country, the tool allows to assess the progress on NDC implementation by (i) comparing planned versus implemented mitigation and adaptation actions, and (ii) estimating the GHG reduction achieved from the implementation of mitigation actions compared against the sectoral and/or national baseline and NDC target scenario. The tool is designed to support governments, national experts, and practitioners involved in the preparation, implementation, updating, revision, and reporting of all sectors covered by the NDC.

Enhancing Countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions for Emissions Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation - MTF/GLO/168/WRI 2022

Under the Paris Agreement on climate change, all parties are required to define and communicate their “nationally determined contributions” (NDCs), the efforts that they plan to undertake to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. To ensure they are sufficiently ambitious, the targets and commitments set out by countries in 2015 need updating every five years. This project represented FAO’s response to specific countries’ requests for support to conduct the first revision of NDCs in 2020. The overarching objective was to improve countries’ strategies and tools to reduce their emissions and improve adaptation in the agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU) sector, addressing existing gaps in AFOLU components and resulting in more ambitious commitments and strategies.
