No results found.This report concerns the evaluation of the PBF-funded project jointly implemented by FAO, UNDP and UNFPA to support youth at risk in Sierra Leone to reintegrate into their community and families, and at the same time, advocate for institutional reforms that address the core question of recruitment of youth into cliques and gangs. It aims to inform the project stakeholders and other interested parties about project achievements and lessons learned. The project effectively helped support the economic and social empowerment of youth at risk and strengthen trust between beneficiaries and their communities. However, weaknesses such as failure to finish and deliver youth livelihood facilities and materials and the absence of clear communication reduced the sustainability of gains and the likelihood of impact. It is recommended to complete all project activities and engage exit plan, streamline future procurement mechanisms and process, engage systems that encourage local contractors, start drug and alcohol counselling at commencement of project, incorporate mental health and psychosocial counselling, encourage better data collection as part of project monitoring, and consider a longer-term timeframe for programming. -

No results found.This report presents the results of the evaluation of the project “Creating peaceful societies through women’s improved access to management of natural resources, land tenure rights and economic empowerment in Sierra Leone” (UNJP/SIL/050/PBF), jointly implemented by FAO and ILO between 2019 and 2020. The project aimed at addressing the two underlying causes of conflicts in Sierra Leone - gender discrimination and fragmented land governance - by focusing on: i) more effective and gender-inclusive land tenure governance; and ii) women’s economic empowerment through skills, knowledge, gender-sensitive financial services and organizational capacity.The project was clearly appropriate and strategic to the main peacebuilding goals and challenges in Sierra Leone. It was also clear that the project has successfully created a momentum for women and their communities at large to more confidently address conflict issues in the future. Women’s participation in design and management of income-generating economic activities was particularly successful.The evaluation makes a number of recommendations, including a follow-up of the livelihood component. Scale-up and sustainability should be the next steps for widespread mapping of family-owned lands. Providing a lighter version of the mapping software (SOLA) would help in this regard, and it could also sustain mapping at the community level after project closure.

L'Organisation reconnaît que les inégalités persistantes entre les femmes et les hommes sont un obstacle majeur à l'agriculture et au développement rural et que l'élimination de ces disparités est essentielle pour bâtir des systèmes alimentaires durables et inclusifs et des sociétés résilientes et pacifiques. Conformément aux priorités fixées par l'agenda international, la Politique sur l’égalité des sexes de la FAO, approuvée pour la première fois en 2012, fournit à l'Organisation un cadre institutionnel pour orienter son travail technique et normatif vers des objectifs clairs en matière d'égalité entre les sexes, correspondant à son mandat. La Politique reconnaît qu'un environnement organisationnel sensible au genre est nécessaire pour progresser vers ces objectifs. Il comprend donc un ensemble de normes minimales pour l'intégration des questions de genre qui veillent à ce que les dimensions de genre soient correctement prises en compte dans toutes les fonctions organisationnelles, de la gestion axée sur les résultats à l'apprentissage du personnel et à la production de données probantes. Reconnaissant que tout le personnel a un rôle à jouer dans la promotion de l’égalité des sexes et de l’autonomisation des femmes, la Politique établit un cadre de responsabilité partagée qui définit clairement les responsabilités de sa mise en œuvre dans l’ensemble de l’Organisation. La Politique révisée, qui sera mise en œuvre au cours des dix prochaines années, est un instrument solide pour stimuler les efforts de la FAO pour lutter contre les inégalités qui sont encore omniprésentes dans les systèmes agricoles et alimentaires et pour libérer les ambitions et le potentiel des femmes et des filles rurales. Un aperçu du rôle des femmes dans l'agriculture et des principales contraintes auxquelles elles sont confrontées en raison de la discrimination fondée sur le sexe est présenté dans la section Raison d’être de la présente Politique, afin de positionner clairement l'engagement de la FAO à promouvoir l'égalité des sexes comme partie intégrante de son mandat et de sa contribution à la mise en œuvre de l'Agenda 2030 et des ODD.

No results found.The second meeting of the GCC-FMD was organized virtually under the umbrella of the GF-TADs, by its FMD Working Group (WG) on 12 April 2022. The participants included representatives of 11 GCC-FMD Standing Member organizations, and representatives from the FAO and OIE regional offices, the representatives from FAO/WOAH regional Reference Centres, and the head of the FAO/WOAH World Reference Laboratory for FMD (WRLFMD, The Pirbright Institute, UK). The FMD-WG, is looking to this committee to guide in the final phase of the implementation of the FAO/WOAH Global FMD Control Strategy, through sharing information and experiences, improving the alignment and coordination of regional initiatives with the FAO/WOAH Global FMD control strategy and eventually developing a 5-year global FMD action plan. The overall purpose of the GCC-FMD is to: (i) Facilitate the implementation of the Global strategy as it is entering the final phase of its implementation; (ii) Enhance information exchange and coordination at regional level; (iii) Enable replication of success across regions. The GCC-FMD Chair (PANAFTOSA) and Co-chair (GFRA), Mr. Jean Philippe Dop, WOAH Deputy Director General and Mr. Keith Sumption, FAO Chief Veterinary Officer graced the opening session of the second meeting of the GCC-FMD. During this meeting, Standing members’ inputs will be sought to find solutions to the challenges for FMD control that are common across regions. Current and planned initiatives under the themes of regional governance, advocacy, public private partnerships (PPP) and technical issues will be discussed to guide the future action plan.
