Synopsis (short abstract) The TAP is a multi-lateral dynamic facilitation mechanism initiated by the G20. It capitalizes on and adds value to ongoing initiatives by fostering greater coherence of capacity development interventions in tropical agriculture, strengthening interaction for more harmonized action and greater mutual accountability, and avoiding duplication. An assessment of ongoing initiatives, current priorities, capacities and needs in agricultural innovation systems will lead to the formulation of a strategi c action plan and the development of a framework for coordinated actions articulated around the following three services: policy dialogue space, the marketplace and TAPipedia.

TAPipedia is one of the three envisaged services to be developed by TAP aiming to facilitate an agricultural innovation boost for tropical countries – the other two being a policy-dialogue space and a marketplace, respectively. TAPipedia is expected to be “a global information system for innovation outputs, success stories, socioeconomic impacts, lessons learned, and analyses of impacts”. This is a brief description of what TAPipedia is expected to provide access to in terms of content and these resources are at the core of what the outcomes of an analysis revealed.

Innovation has a high potential for increasing productivity and farmers’ income,l and consequently reducing poverty and improving food security. However several tropic al countries lack the resources and capacities to suitably develop their agricultural innovation systems. To address this gap, the g20 established the tropical agriculture platform (tap), a multilateral dynamic facilitation mechanism, which fosters better coherence and greater impact of capacity development for agricultural innova tion systems in tropical countries.
