No results found.The Workshop on Fish Technology, Utilization and Quality Assurance was held by the Fish Utilization and Marketing Service of FAO's Fishery Industries Division in collaboration with the FAO Regional Office for Africa. The Workshop was held to review progress and problems in post-harvest fish utilization in Africa and formulate recommendations to FAO, its member countries and all institutes, institutions and persons interested in fish utilization in Africa. The experts reviewed in partic ular fresh fish utilization, fish processing, quality assurance, and marketing and socio-economic issues. The review was done through presentation by the secretariat of a report on progress and events since the Consultation in Fish Technology held in 2001, presentation of 26 papers, abstracts of two additional papers, and a field trip to the Mbegani Fisheries Development Centre, a fish market and a processing unit in Dar es Salaam. The report includes the recommendations as well as t he papers that were available to the experts. -

No results found.This document contains the Report and papers presented at the Regional Workshop on Networking for Improved Access to Fisheries and Aquaculture Information in Africa, which was held in Grahamstown, South Africa, from 3 to 7 November 2003. Eighteen participants from Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Seychelles and South Africa attended the Workshop and presented papers. Fisheries library networking activities were reviewed as a basis for planning future collaboration to improve ac cess to fisheries information and to promote information resources sharing. The summary of priority issues includes improved dissemination of African fisheries publications, full-text online fisheries journals, open source software, network focal points, the use of standard methodologies to enhance information exchange and technology for document delivery. The long-term goal of the network is to strengthen the information capacity at national fisheries institutions in Africa. -

No results found.Grameen Foundation’s breakthrough FarmerLink program combines satellite data and farm data collected by mobile-equipped field agents to help coconut farmers in the Philippines, to increase field agents to help coconut farmers in the Philippines to increase productivity, deal with crop pests and diseases, cope with extreme weather and increase the sustainability of their farms. Grameen Foundation developed FarmerLink using human-centered design and in collaboration with partner organizations and their trusted network of field agents. Its design and delivery enables smallholder farmers, to overcome usability challenges in working with mobile services and offers access to precious, previously unavailable information.
