No results found.This is one of the seven sector analyses (Meat and Dairy; Fruit and vegetables; Cereals; Wine; Diversification, Fishery and Aquaculture, and Forestry) that have been prepared since spring 2011 for the agricultural authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina at state, entity and Brčko District level. The sector analyses are inputs to the design of measures to be financed under the European Union (EU) Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance for Rural Development (IPARD), once available, as well as for t he design of the country’s policies interventions in general. No results found.This report aims to highlight the current strengths of the institutional disaster risk reduction (DRR) system for agriculture in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as indicate existing gaps and capacity needs to further enhance it. A comprehensive assessment is conducted, which includes a general overview of the country’s agricultural sector and outlines the most frequent natural hazards that are impacting the sector. It is followed by an analysis of the existing legal, policy and institutional structure and discusses various components of the system, including e.g. the functioning of early warning systems, assessments of disaster risks, post-disaster needs assessments, including damages and losses assessments and the availability of agricultural insurance for farmers. -

This development will be based on market mechanisms and be driven by the dynamics of international markets. How much can the sector expand? Which markets are feasible and what should be the main products of the sector? How can the framework conditions support this vision? Answering these questions is essential for the formulation of a strategy for the sector development .
