No results found.The inception meeting of the PESCA-CECAF project was held at the Volta Hotel in Akosombo, Ghana from 24 to 26 April 2018. A total of 34 participants from 9 CECAF Member countries and representatives, Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC), EAF-Nansen Programme, FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, FAO Regional Office for Africa, DEMERSTEM Project, Instituto Espanol de Oceanografid Oceanografia (IEO), West Africa Non-State Actors for Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (WANSAFA), Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission (CSRP), and Union Economique et Monétaire Ouest Africaine (UEMOA) attended the meeting. -

Coastal fisheries in West Africa are essential for providing food and employment, supporting the livelihoods of men and women and generating income. The overall objective of the project “Delivering sustainable environmental, social and economic benefits in West Africa through good governance, correct incentives and innovation” is to strengthen governance, management and value chains through the implementation of an ecosystem approach to fisheries, relevant international tools and innovative governance partnerships in Cabo Verde, Ivory Coast and Senegal. Overall, the evaluation rated the project as “relatively satisfactory". The evaluation recommended certain improvements, particularly concerning the recruitment strategy and organization of personnel, co-financing, the results framework and monitoring of activities. -

No results found.The twelfth session of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) was held virtually from 19 to 20 June 2023. The SAG considered theoutcomes of the work carried out by various joint working groups between 2022 and 2023 and their recommendations to the 19th Session of WECAFC . A revised version of the Caribbean Regional anchored aFAD Management plan and a revised version of the Guide for improved monitoring of anchored aFAD catches and improved assessment of anchored aFADsimpact on stocks first reviewed at the eleventh session of SAG were tabled.
