The concept of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) was launched by FAO and the International Alliance on Climate-Smart Agriculture (IACSA) project became its main tool to promote the coordination and collaboration around CSA at the global level. The project effectively achieved its stated outputs and outcomes and was a key contribution to the international coordination and collaboration on CSA. IACSA also developed a series of highly relevant and widely used knowledge products. Thanks to this, FAO indirectly contributed to improved production systems in many countries because IACSA played a prominent role in stimulating the wide adoption of the CSA concept and many major initiatives by other development partners are now underway to put CSA knowledge into practice. Through the pilot projects, this project managed to successfully apply CSA in practice at the local level in Botswana and Ecuador. The evaluation recommends that FAO should consolidate its thought-leadership position in CSA through strengthening its work on CSA, both in knowledge management and in field projects. Also, FAO should consolidate its institution-wide support to the Global Alliance on Climate-Smart Agriculture (GACSA) and GACSA should engage with all relevant FAO divisions of work, from global to local. Finally, FAO should consolidate and scale the project results in Botswana and Ecuador.
