    The flyer provides at a glance information regarding the proper framework for implementing the 2030 Agenda for water efficiency and productivity (SDG 6.4) through three major work packages: (i) establishing a robust water accounting system providing the evidence base for the full water budgeting (supply, demand, uses and re-cycling, present and projected) and for monitoring progress in the achievement of the targets while assessing the institutional effectiveness to govern water resources; and (ii) implementing a series of interventions to increase water efficiency and productivity in selected farming systems of Iran to advance in achieving the SDG 6.4 so that the country can benefit from theses obejectives which are also the goals of a project being impelmented by FAO.

    This report provides the water accounting study for Awash River basin in Ethiopia carried out by IHE-Delft using the Water Productivity (WaPOR) data portal of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). The Awash River Basin is the most utilized river basin in Ethiopia hosting most of the industrial activities in the country, a number of small to large scale irrigation schemes and the main population centres of the country with more than 18.6 million people (2017 estimate). The basin faces high water stress during the peak of the irrigation season and frequent flooding in rainy seasons. The Water Accounting Plus (WA+) system designed by IHE Delft with its partners FAO and IWMI has been applied to gain full insights into the state of the water resources in the basin for the period 2009 to 2018. The WA+ framework is a reporting mechanism for water flows, fluxes and stocks that are summarized by means of WA+ sheets. The role of land use and land cover on producing and consuming water is described explicitly.

    This report describes the water accounting study for the Nile River Basin carried out by IHE-Delft using the Water Productivity (WaPOR) data portal of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). The Nile River Basin faces a huge challenge in terms of water security. With an expected doubling of the population in the basin in the next twenty-five years, water supply in the basin will be further depleted as demands for agriculture, domestic and industry continues to grow. Water availability in the basin will also be threatened by climate change and variability and pollution from increased agricultural and industrial activities and from urban areas. However with limited up-to-date ground observations, in terms of duration, completeness, and quality of the hydro-meteorological records it is difficult to draw an appropriate picture of the water resources conditions. The Water Accounting Plus (WA+) system designed by IHE Delft with its partners FAO and IWMI has been applied to gain full insights into the state of the water resources in the basin.

    In recent years, several major drivers have put the world off track to ending world hunger and malnutrition in all its forms by 2030. The challenges have grown with the COVID-19 pandemic and related containment measures. This report presents the first global assessment of food insecurity and malnutrition for 2020 and offers some indication of what hunger might look like by 2030 in a scenario further complicated by the enduring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also includes new estimates of the cost and affordability of healthy diets, which provide an important link between the food security and nutrition indicators and the analysis of their trends. Altogether, the report highlights the need for a deeper reflection on how to better address the global food security and nutrition situation.To understand how hunger and malnutrition have reached these critical levels, this report draws on the analyses of the past four editions, which have produced a vast, evidence-based body of knowledge of the major drivers behind the recent changes in food security and nutrition. These drivers, which are increasing in frequency and intensity, include conflicts, climate variability and extremes, and economic slowdowns and downturns – all exacerbated by the underlying causes of poverty and very high and persistent levels of inequality. In addition, millions of people around the world suffer from food insecurity and different forms of malnutrition because they cannot afford the cost of healthy diets. From a synthesized understanding of this knowledge, updates and additional analyses are generated to create a holistic view of the combined effects of these drivers, both on each other and on food systems, and how they negatively affect food security and nutrition around the world.In turn, the evidence informs an in-depth look at how to move from silo solutions to integrated food systems solutions. In this regard, the report proposes transformative pathways that specifically address the challenges posed by the major drivers, also highlighting the types of policy and investment portfolios required to transform food systems for food security, improved nutrition, and affordable healthy diets for all. The report observes that, while the pandemic has caused major setbacks, there is much to be learned from the vulnerabilities and inequalities it has laid bare. If taken to heart, these new insights and wisdom can help get the world back on track towards the goal of ending hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition in all its forms.

    Ha megtanítjuk a fiatalokat arra, hogy jobban értékeljék az ételt, máris sokat tettünk annak érdekében, hogy megtörténjenek azok a magatartásbeli változások, amelyek által az élelmiszer-pazarlást csökkenthetjük. A „Legyél te is Ételmentő!” című kiadványsorozat ilyen megfontolásból készült. Ez az oktatócsomag egy átfogó, tudományos és inkluzív fejlesztési folyamat eredménye, mely többek – állami és civil szereplők – bevonásával készült. A közvélemény formálásához egyre inkább szükség van az élelmiszerpazarlás okaival és megoldásaival kapcsolatos tájékoztatásra. A csomag ezt az igényt igyekszik kielégíteni, valamint arra törekszik, hogy bevonja a gyerekeket az élelmiszer-pazarlás csökkentésébe és a globális szintű gazdasági, környezetvédelmi és társadalmi következmények enyhítésébe. A kiadványsorozat egy holisztikus szemléletű élelmiszer-rendszert mutat be olyan kommunikációs stílusban és eszközökkel, amelyek alkalmasak arra, hogy felhívják a gyerekek figyelmét a problémákra. Összeállításakor arra törekedtünk, hogy a pedagógusoknak módjuk legyen az általuk leginkább relevánsnak tartott elemek kiválasztására és alkalmazására. A csomagban példák és tippek is találhatók arra vonatkozóan, hogyan válhat a gyerekekből aktív „ételmentő”, illetve hogyan mozdíthatják elő ők maguk is ezt a szemléletváltozást a főbb gondolatok továbbadásával családi és baráti körben.
