The five training manuals on Simple methods for aquaculture and the Handbook on small-scale freshwater fish farming presented in this CD-ROM have been produced by the Inland Water Resources and Aquaculture Service of the Fishery Resources Division, FAO Fisheries Department. These manuals are written in simple language and f ocus on the practical aspects of semi-intensive fish culture in fresh waters, from site selection and fish farm construction to the raising, final harvesting and marketi ng of the fish. They are primarily intended for extension workers, technicians and teachers, to help them present the practical aspects of freshwater fish farming to small-scale farmers in developing countries.

Simple techniques for production of dried meat 2006

The suspending meat strips method should be to suspend the meat strips individually from one end, thus ensuring, through appropriate arrangement on the drying facility, free air circulation along the whole length of the pieces and fast and uniform drying. The contact of meat pieces with each other during drying must absolutely be avoided, since these areas will remain wet and humid for a prolonged period, thus making them a favourable environment for spoilage, bacteria and flies.

A simple method for estimating MSY from catch and resilience 2013
    Also available in:
    No results found.

The Law of the Sea requires that fish stocks are maintained at levels that can pro- duce the maximum sustaible yield (MSY). However, for most fish stocks, no esti- mates of MSY are currently available. Here, we present a new method for estimating MSY from catch data, resilience of the respective species, and simple assumptions about relative stock sizes at the first and fil year of the catch data time series. We compare our results with 146 MSY estimates derived from full stock assessments and f ind excellent agreement. We present principles for fisheries magement of data-poor stocks, based only on information about catches and MSY.
