No results found.The newsletter focused on project implementation progress of the 4 protected areas in Dongting Lake during January to June, 2019. Major events and progress included: first, the construction of the integrated monitoring system of “Sky, Space and Earth”, the completion of the preliminary draft of the Regulations on Protection of West Dongting Lake and holding of the stakeholders’ symposium, and trainings on management planning, information technology, bird identification and monitoring, and ecotourism activities for the 4 project focal NRs. Second, the field survey on flag species monitoring was carried on in East Dongting Lake Nature Reserve. In addition, the kick-off meeting for the mid-term evaluation on the Securing Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use in China’s Dongting Lake Protected Areas Project (043 GEF Project) was held on 13, March, 2019 in Changsha. -

No results found.This newsletter gives an overview of the project progress covering January to June in 2018, which has made good achievements. A series of policies and regulations are being developed including the river chief and lake chief system, Dongting lake national park plan etc. The biodiversity data of Dongting lake has been updated, and the construction of integrated information system has started. The capacity of staff of NRs has been strengthened through various training activities, and management plan of NRs has been developed. Biodiversity conservation has been integrated into different key sectors. The ceremony of "2018 Hunan bird flying" was launched in March with over 300 participants to raise the public awareness on bird protection. And the General Secretary Xi Jinping visited one monitoring site in April and gave praise to the conservation work. -

No results found.This newsletter provides an overview of the progress of the project from May to September 2019, with focus on the project highlights and key activities in the course of implementation. The project sustainable financing expert team conducted a social investigation survey to assess the financing status and identify existing constraints and problems in Poyang Lake protected areas. The project management office (PMO) has signed agreements with the Poyang Lake National Nature Reserve (PLNNR), Nanji National Nature Reserve (Nanji NR) and Duchang Provincial Nature Reserve (Duchang NR) to implement biodiversity monitoring program and carry out community co-management activities. Additionally, the PMO organized training class on the subject of “ survey and monitoring of Water Deer” and held workshop on establishing sustainable PA financing mechanism. The project keeps its progress on the right track. At the end of the newsletter, it centered on describing a story happened in Nanji NR about how to balance the interests of the fishermen and wintering birds.
