    This brief provides background information to regional and country office staff and FAO partners on the current state of carbon markets in the region. The document also shares recent developments under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and potential regional needs for the implementation of carbon trading among countries and for the achievement of nationally determined contributions (NDCs).Beyond a general introduction to carbon credits and carbon markets, this brief focuses on carbon credits for agrifood systems (i.e. agriculture and forestry) and provides an overview of the challenges and opportunities in the seventeen FAO programme countries in Europe and Central Asia.

    The climate change debate has brought forests to the forefront of the international agenda. Forests have acquired a new value as one of the planet's most important stores of carbon, thus helping to ensure that levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, the most abundant greenhouse gas, are kept below critical levels. With all newly-appreciated values, new markets are not far behind. Carbon markets allow forest owners to gain recognition, and financial compensation, for the work they do to keep the fo rests in place, and to manage them sustainably. Since the 1990s the forestry voluntary carbon market (VCM) has taken shape, though forest owners have generally not been the first to understand its potential. It is a complex concept and there is a very real risk that forest owners may surrender the potential benefits of this new market to other, better informed actors. Small landowners and local communities in rural areas of the Asia-Pacific region are at the greatest risk of losing out in this n ew market. These guidelines were developed to assist smallholders and smallholder groups, community-based forest managers, non-governmental organizations and local forestry officials to decide whether or not to undertake a forestry voluntary carbon market project and, once a decision has been taken to proceed, to provide guidance on how to design and implement the project.

Of these assets, the Library is unquestionably the most outstanding and is a lasting record of the Institute's work and its achievement in the field of agriculture. This catalogue will undoubtedly contribute towards a better knowledge of this international Library. This volume in its present form, represents the systematic card-index, by subject of the Brussels Decimal Classification, in French and English, and it's supplemented by the general alphabetical index of authors.

    There has been a marked upward trend in production and consumption of fruits and vegetables in Asia and the Pacific in recent years. Along with rising consumer demand has come greater awareness of food safety issues and increased need for convenience and quality. Selection of high quality horticultural produce for processing and implementation of good practices during processing operations are required to assure both the quality of the produce and the safety of the final product. This technical guide reviews, from a theoretical and practical perspective, the critical issues that must be addressed for fresh-cut produce to meet consumer demand for convenience, quality and safety. A case study on fresh-cut processing in Thailand is included. The guide should be of practical value to small processors, trainers and extension workers who provide support to individuals engaged in production of fresh-cut tropical produce for sale.
