No results found.A national training course on “Strengthening Food Safety Standard Setting and Effective Participation in Codex activities in Myanmar” as a part of FAO Regional project “Support for Capacity Building for International Food Safety Standard Development and Implementation in ASEAN Countries” (GCP/RAS/295/JPN) was held on 20-21 December 2016 at Yangon, Myanmar. The objectives of the training course were to provide participants with 1) an enhanced understanding of the structure and function of Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) and National Codex Committee, 2) an enhanced knowledge about effective participation in Codex activities, 3) draft road map for improving standard development activities and strengthening Codex activities. The training course was attended by 30 participants from the Government of Myanmar and trade associations, who are mainly responsible for food safety control with regard to standard development and implementation as well as the work of the Codex. -

Professional training programme in the agropastoral and fisheries sectors in Cameroon

Investing in farmers – or agriculture human capital – is crucial to addressing challenges in our agri-food systems. A global study carried out by the FAO Investment Centre and the International Food Policy Research Institute, with support from the CGIAR Research Programme on Policies, Institutions and Markets and the FAO Research and Extension Unit, looks at agriculture human capital investments, from trends to promising initiatives. One of the nine featured case studies is the Support Programme for the Renovation and Development of Professional Training in the Agropastoral and Fisheries Sectors in Cameroon. The programme is part of the training-integration continuum preparing young people for jobs in the agropastoral and fishery sectors and has contributed to strengthening their entrepreneurial and social skills. The success of the model is based on fostering common values centred on the young person’s life project, the involvement of professionals and families in the training, and the building of national expertise in the conception, design, implementation and evaluation of the model. This publication is part of the Country Investment Highlights series under the FAO Investment Centre's Knowledge for Investment (K4I) programme.

No results found.The FAO-led Integration of Amazon Protected Areas (IAPA) project marks the first time that an EC‑funded intervention in Regional Latin America and the Caribbean has utilized FAO’s Operational Partners Implementation Modality (OPIM). Through OPIM, FAO has been able to make the best use of expertise available on the ground, strengthen national and local ownership of interventions and increase the sustainability of results. Close collaboration on the ground – including numerous in person meetings – between FAO and its Operational Partners - the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) - proved to be a key factor in the success of the project. Early video conferences helped to ensure clarity of both FAO and EC requirements. Site visits from FAO to Operational Partner offices gave the Organization invaluable knowledge of the partners’ accounting systems and controls. All parties were actively contributing to the strategic and operational development of their respective organization’s programmes. Importantly, the lessons learned by Operational Partners throughout this process will continue to benefit their operations in future interactions with the EC and other donors. -

No results found.This report illustrates the food loss assessment studies undertaken along the maize, sunflower and beans supply chains in Uganda in 2015-16 and 2016-17. They aimed to identify the critical loss points in the selected supply chains, the key stages at which food losses occur, why they occur, the extent and impact of food losses and the economic, social and environmental implications of the food losses. Furthermore, these studies also evaluated the feasibility of potential interventions to reduce food losses and waste. -
