Synopsis (short abstract) Commit to Grow Equality is a global process to enhance gender equality and women’s empowerment in agrifood systems through financing and partnerships. Bringing together governments, philanthropy, the private sector, United Nations and other multilateral agencies, civil society organizations and others, the process aims to unite key stakeholders to commit investments and partnerships to make agrifood systems work better for women and transform them in the process.While actions to enhance gender equality and women’s empowerment have increasingly been mainstreamed into development programmes and financing mechanisms that focus on agriculture and rural development, only a small fraction of programming treats gender as a fundamental issue.This Commitments Matrix presents macro commitments and a series of thematic commitments, divided into five sub-categories and targeting three different stakeholder categories, available for stakeholders to associate with.

    Commit to Grow Equality (CGE) is a global process launched by FAO and a diverse group of partners to accelerate gender equality and women’s empowerment in agrifood systems through financing, investments and partnerships. The objective is to unite key stakeholders to commit to make agrifood systems work better for women, their communities, and the planet by 2030. In particular, CGE aims to contribute to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2 and 5. CGE will enable a diverse range of actors, both governmental and non-governmental, to report against a strategic set of commitments specifically linked to agrifood systems. Through their new and newly aligned commitment(s) to various dimensions of the CGE Commitments Matrix, these actors are agreeing to take specific action(s) to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment within their own domains. The matrix offers the opportunity to identify areas for enhanced impact, align and complement action, increase transparency and learning, and remind all actors of their commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

    FAO is launching a global commitment to enhance gender equality in agrifood systems through financing and partnerships titled "Commit to Grow Equality". The commitment process aims to unite governments, resource partners, private sector, UN Agencies, civil society organizations and others to commit investment and partnership for increased gender equality and women’s empowerment in agrifood systems.     This first progress report, published one year after the launch of FAO’s Commit to Grow Equality (CGE) initiative, presents an overview of the initiative and highlights 17 commitments made by CGE partners to advance gender equality and women's empowerment in agrifood systems.The report outlines the CGE Commitments Matrix along which commitments are structured into an overarching category and five thematic areas, each addressing key strategic priorities for the inclusive transformation of agrifood systems. Within each thematic area, the report showcases partner-led initiatives that will drive meaningful change in agrifood systems under the umbrella of the CGE initiative.The CGE initiative was launched in March 2024 on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women as a global process to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in agrifood systems through financing, investments and partnerships. It has since attracted a wide a range of partners, including Members, multilateral bodies, producer organizations, NGOs and businesses who collectively work to accelerate progress towards inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems.
