Synopsis (short abstract) Este manual de propagación artificial de peces de aguas templadas se destina ante todo a los extensionistas y a los centros de capacitación piscícola y por eso se ha concedido especial atención a las ilustraciones. En él se describen los aspectos biológicos básicos de la reproducción de los peces y se presentan las distintas técnicas utilizadas para recoger huevos fertilizados, fertilizar artificialmente los huevos y criar las larvas y alevines obtenidos. Se describen además las instalaciones de incubación y alevinaje y el equipo y herramientas de trabajo que se necesitan en un centro de dimensiones medias de producción y distribución de semilla de peces y se examinan los diversos métodos de transporte de huevos de peces, larvas, alevines y jaramugos. Se presentan los métodos de extracción y conservación de glándulas pituitarias y se indican las dosis de extracto de pituitaria que han de utilizarse para inducir el desove de varios tipos de peces de aguas templadas. Por último, se descr iben las técnicas empleadas para la propagación artificial de algunas especies de aguas templadas que tienen importancia comercial

    In this paper techniques developed for artificial reproduction of Bagre Negro (Rhamdia sapo) are described. Corionic gonadotrophin was used for the hormonal induction. The relationship between water temperature and the induction period (latent period) while using artificial insemination (stripping) was verified and is described. For the first time, natural spawning in aquarium was tested and used, with promissing results. The relationship between water temperature and the incubation period w as also established. The highest percentage of positive responses to hormonal induction of the females, was obtained in the month of October. During the study period a decreasing volume of the eggs and consequently of the larvae size at hatching was observed. The relationship between egg and larval size was determined. It is concluded that the developed techniques will allow the production of catfish larvae at a large scale.
