No results found.Degradation of the natural resource base is one of the most serious problems in the dryland areas of Ethiopia. It is expected to be exacerbated due to climate change and variability, which will have profound impact on the livelihoods of rural communities. To address this, steps are being taken by national research systems to review its strategy and develop potential adaptation technologies and practices. These steps will focus on improving productivity and reducing risks of s mallholders and subsistence farmers, which account for the vast majority of the rural population of Ethiopia. The study presents an inventory of the current technologies and practices on agricultural-based livelihood (i.e. crops, livestock, and agroforestry and water management) that are developed and tested at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research national and regional research station. One of the major challenges is to further assess and screen these technologies and practices in the face of imminent climate change and variability-related risks, and to up-scale them at farm and community levels. -
