    This paper analyzes the changes in dairy markets, policies, and trade over the past two decades and discusses what can be expected in the next decade. We analyze the changes in production, consumption and trade, as well as the changes in policies and the industry structure, and discuss how various factors have affected the market and trade situation. The paper is organized as follows: we first discuss the macro-view of the Indian dairy sector. Then we discuss policy changes and the expected e ffects of globalization and trade liberalization on the scale and scope of production. In the next section we discuss the changes in the cost and return structure of dairy production and the processing sector, trends in input and output prices, and breeding and health services. In the last section we discuss the impacts of commercialization of the dairy sector on socioeconomic-health-environment issues.

    The Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries: The requirement for structural change and adjustment in the fisheries sector 1998

    Following background information concerning events that led to decision by the FAO Committee on Fisheries to develop the Code of Conduct for Reponsible Fisheries, the paper discusses the process in which the Code was elaborated. Its purpose and objectives are then considered. The structure of the Code is outlined. In terms of implementation, FAO's global initiatives are reviewed along with regional considerations, the need for closer collaboration among fishery bodies, national responsibilities for implementation, and outcomes. The next section concerns the Code in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean context, including the possible need to regionally adapt some aspects of it to take account of regional specificities. The conclusion emphasises the need to focus more intensively on fisheries management, and to address past shortcomings, if fisheries are to be sustainably exploited in future and the contribution of fisheries to food security maintained.

    Structural changes in the sugar market and implications for sugarcane smallholders in developing countries 2013

    World sugar has experienced a number of trade and policy changes. Their impact on the sugar sector and stakeholders in developing countries has yet to be fully understood. For developing countries such as Ethiopia and the United Republic of Tanzania, which have the potential to expand sugar production and exports, understanding the impact of current and prospective trends in the world sugar market on the income and wages of smallholders and workers can provide useful insights into the contributi on of the sugar sub-sector to development goals. This paper employs econometrics and simulation techniques on household survey data to analyze the effect of a set of policy and market scenarios on employment and income of stakeholders (smallholders, workers) in the sugar sub-sectors of Ethiopia and the United Republic of Tanzania. The study reviews the current state of the world sugar market, discusses the likely impacts of various market and trade policy scenarios, and identifies the linkages b etween the macro level changes and earnings of small stakeholders. The key findings are that changes in international markets have limited effects on smallholders’ income, mainly because of the low supply response of smallholders in the face of relatively high elastic global supply. The increase in border price of sugar is beneficial to small farmers if the opportunity cost of land is low, or if domestic agricultural prices become more flexible.

    FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 2022
    The FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 was endorsed by FAO Council in June 2022. This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.

    The Protocol of 8-9 July 1946 relative to the dissolution of the International Institute of Agriculture, transferred the functions and assets of the said Institute to FAO. Of these assets, the Library is unquestionably the most outstanding and is a lasting record of the Institute's work and its achievement in the field of agriculture. This catalogue will undoubtedly contribute towards a better knowledge of this international Library. This volume in its present form, represents the systematic card-index, by subject of the Brussels Decimal Classification, in French and English, and it's supplemented by the general alphabetical index of authors.

    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.
