This quarterly newsletter for the first quarter of 2019 reports on activities implemented and supported by the FAO Country office in Namibia during the period January 2019 – March 2019. The first quarter started on a positive note whereby the Country office supported by the GEF unit in FAO Headquarters successfully submitted an expression of interest to the GEF Secretariat under the GEF-7 Sustainable Forest Management Dryland Programme that was accepted and the office requested to submit a project identification form. During the period under report, this newsletter covered amongst others the following activities undertaken by FAO in Namibia: Commemoration of International Day of Forests, World Wetlands Day and World Water Day, observed together on 15 March 2019 in Namibia; signing of the project to support drought-affected communities; visit to a horticulture Centre in support of Milan Food Policy Pact implementation in Namibia; discussion on youth involvement in agriculture; farm field days to showcase conservation agriculture potential; and handing of agricultural tools to a rural women group in support of rural development. The newsletter also contains snapshots of FAO Namibia’s social media activities.
