Synopsis (short abstract) This volume presents the proceedings of the FAO Global Conference on Animal Health Innovation, Reference Centres and Vaccines, held at FAO headquarters in Rome from 23 to 25 September 2024. The event gathered over 400 participants, including delegates from 66 FAO Members, chief veterinary officers, international organizations, FAO reference centres, vaccine manufacturers, researchers, and young professionals. The goal was to address urgent animal health challenges and shape a path towards sustainable transformation.Organized into nine thematic sessions, the proceedings explore innovations in veterinary vaccinology and diagnostics, the evolving role of reference centres and regional labs, the One Health approach, and strategies to enhance preparedness, surveillance, and collaboration. It includes summaries of high-level plenaries, panel discussions, ministerial sessions, six side events, and a curated exhibition of twelve global success stories in sustainable livestock practices.The publication offers an accessible and comprehensive record of the conference, featuring keynote speeches, country interventions, technical presentations, and expert insights. It serves as a key reference for decision-makers, practitioners, academics, and development partners working to strengthen animal health systems.As both a technical guide and strategic roadmap, the volume underscores FAO’s commitment to global cooperation in animal health. It supports the development of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable livestock systems that advance food security, rural development, and One Health objectives worldwide – aligned with FAO’s vision for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life.

    Stop African swine fever (ASF): Public and private partnering for success

    African swine fever (ASF) virus continues to spread across the globe with a huge socio-economic impact. Coordinated efforts among all relevant stakeholders are needed to achieve control of this deadly disease. Public and private partnerships (PPPs) can provide optimal use of the unique strengths of both sectors when they are well planned and implemented. In the context of the ASF Global Control Initiative and as a follow-up of the FAO/OIE call for action held in October 2020, the FAO and OIE organized the virtual event on PPP. ‘Stop ASF: Public and Private partnering for success’ took place on 14, 21, and 28 June 2021 to highlight the importance and role of PPP and promote the engagement and collaboration of the public and private sectors in the ASF Global Control Initiative. The first event on PPP for ASF control was organized in cooperation with the International Meat Secretariat and in line with the new FAO Strategy for Private Sector Engagement. This publication is the report of the FAO/OIE virtual event on public-private partnership ‘Stop ASF: Public and Private partnering for success’ which took place on 14, 21 and 28 June 2021.
