Synopsis (short abstract) This flyer announces the 5th World Teak Conference (WTC) 2025, scheduled for September 17-20, 2025, in Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty, Kerala, India, organized by the Kerala Forest Research Institute, the International Teak Information Network (TEAKNET) and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) with the support of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Government of Japan and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO Teakwood Working Party Div. 5.06.02)The conference will focus on "Sustainable Development of the Global Teak Sector- Adapting to Future Markets and Environments. The conference participants include both public and private sectors concerned with teak plantation management, including small holders, traders, processing industries, forest departments, policy makers and researchers. The exhibition offers a very diverse exhibition space that will be the gateway to your area of specialisation and expand your knowledge, find new partners, build relationships and explore future career paths for your company. WTC is a global event that attracts more than 300 participants from across the world and the conference will host exhibitors, including research organizations, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, forest products industries and processors among others.

    This regional seminar on Teak held in Myanmar was the second of this kind organized by FAO, after the first jointly organized by China/ESCAP/FAO in China, March 1991. Seeing the follow-up activities after the first seminar, FAO recognized the need to examine several technical and economic issues in three major subject areas to discuss how to best guarantee the perpetuity of teak: 1) the management of natural teak forests; 2) the management of teak plantations; and 3) the trade and marketing of t eak. This book consists of the proceedings of the seminar: record of discussions, thematic papers, country profiles and introduction to TEAKNET (Asia-Pacific Network on Research and Development of Teak).

    To meet global restoration needs and recover degraded forests and landscapes, adequate public and private investments are required to support restoration activities on the ground. The new FAO publication “Local financing mechanisms for forest and landscape restoration: A review of local level investment mechanisms” examines the pathways available to financing restoration for a positive local level impact. The document provides an in-depth study of how financial mechanisms can be coordinated to maximise the leverage of finance and the adoption of practices at scale across the landscape. By examining some of the accessible investment mechanisms and planning strategies, it aims to support discussions, thinking and decision-making on how to effectively find, select and use investments to provide appropriate incentives and maximize forest and landscape restoration actions. Finally, the publication underlines how facilitators can bridge the gap between smallholders and investors, boosting investments, while promoting local ownership.
