Forestry can make a significant contribution in this regard because many of the poorest people in the world live in and around forested areas, and therefore depend on these resources for subsistence and livelihoods. FAO has launched an initiative for the development of forestry legal frameworks for Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmen istan and Uzbekistan. The main aim of this initiative is to develop a common understanding of issues arising in the formulation and implementation of forestry legislation and to consider further cooperation towards legislative reforms. -
