The work started under the Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance in 1965/66 and was completed under the Special Fund in 1967–69. A survey of fish marketing and distribution practices in the Philippines was conducted, and recommendations made conce rning wholesale markets, landing facilities, fish auctions, transport and distribution and certain aspects of fish processing. Two harbours, Navotas and Dalahican, were suggested for immediate consideration for the construction of fishing ports. Pending decisions on further fishing harbours, increased use should be made of existing inter-island shipping ports. Wholesale and retail prices of fish at the Navotas market and Manila markets were obtained for an 11 month period in 1968/69, and the d istribution of fish from Navotas to other provinces is reported on. 1 The United Nations Special Fund and the Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance were merged to form the United Nations Development Programme on 1 January 1966. The Food and Agriculture Organization is greatly indebted to the following organization and individuals who assisted in the implementation of the project by providing information, advice and facilities: -
