MeetingFood Safety Regulatory Issues 2002Needless to say, it is important to take comprehensive action to keep food safe in all processes covering farm to table. In this sense, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) shares the responsibility of the provision of safe food with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF). Both ministries individually regulate food based on related laws. The MAFF is responsible for food production and quality assurance and the MHLW is responsible for stable food distribution and food safety. No results found.Canada's food safety system operates in a multi-jurisdictional setting involving federal, provincial, territorial and municipal authorities. Because of this shared jurisdiction, a comprehensive agreement entitled Food-borne Illness Outbreak Response Protocol outlines the roles and responsibilities of all governments that are involved in the investigation of a food safety emergency. It clarifies the roles of all participants in the investigation and details an integrated approach in response to n ational and regional food-borne illness outbreaks. For transboundary situations, Canada endorses and follows the Codex Guidelines for the Exchange of Information in Food Control Emergency Situations. As for domestic products, the Protocol serves as the guidance document to address a national food safety emergency involving an imported product. -
