Synopsis (short abstract) The Pacific Strategic Plan for Agricultural and Fisheries Statistics (P-SPAFS) aims to improve the quality and quantity of statistics in the Pacific region for evidence-based policy-making, and for the successful achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. This strategic plan was initiated in 2015 through a regional meeting of agricultural statisticians and planners from several Pacific countries. The work is supported by a partnership between the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics, the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations (FAO) and the Pacific Community (SPC). The strategic plan is a living document and provides a framework that can guide policy-makers and decision-makers towards a common vision of the development of a sustainable agricultural statistics system in the Pacific region.

    The Asia and Pacific Commission on Agricultural Statistics (APCAS) is a statutory body of FAO. APCAS brings together senior statistics officials from FAO member countries of the Asia and Pacific region, who are responsible for the development of agricultural statistics in their respective countries. The APCAS report notes the details of the Commission meeting. Fifty-two technical documents, including an update on the situation of agricultural statistics and priority areas for FAO interventions in the region, were discussed. The report also highlights the key recommendations made by the Commission.

    Digital technologies are slowly spreading in agriculture sectors globally. But their adoption is hampered by the digital divide which requires significant public investments, improved policy and incentive frameworks to be bridged. Only after that, digital transformation will take place at scale. Digital Agriculture Profile (DAP) is meant to assess the country's readiness for this digital transformation by identifying main bottlenecks, opportunities and risks for digital transformation. DAP will thus guide public investment and policy work to accelerate the scaling up of digital transformation.
