Synopsis (short abstract) The 20th issue of FAO Turkiye focuses on forestry activities, with a useful file on FAO's sustainable forestry activities and projects in Turkey. Topics include the Green Wall in Africa as part of the FTPP, forestry work with Central Asian countries. Results of the Düzce Land Degradation Neutrality Project. The dossier also introduces the project for the development of non-timber forest products, which has just started under the TCP. There is also detailed information on the Cooperation Programme in this issue. It describes the support given to 30 women-led cooperatives in different provinces of Turkiye and the plans for the future. The new Farmer Fileld School in Izmir and Manisa are now open for the new training cycle, providing farmers with training on water-stressed production models. A technical cooperation project launched by FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to support small-scale food producers in Türkiye. The project, entitled “Food Safety and Nutrition Capacity Development to Support Small-Scale Producers in Shortening Food Supply Chains”, emphasizes the pivotal role of small-scale producers in the transformation of agrifood systems.

    In the last issue of FAOTURN 2023, we have prepared a panorama of all the activities and events we have carried out as the Türkiye office in one year. We have implemented hundreds of events and dozens of projects in three different portfolio and Regular Programmes all over Türkiye. In this issue, we have prepared an informative compilation about our partnership programs in our cover file. 2023 was a very difficult year for Türkiye. The earthquakes on 6 February, which killed more than 50 000 people, were particularly challenging for everyone. FAO has been on the ground with producers from the first moment to ensure food security and reproduction in these regions, which are also important agricultural and food production basins of Türkiye. In this issue, our efforts to empower women in the sector and protect their rights also took an important place.

    The FAO–GEF Türkiye Programme, which receives funding from the Global Environmental Facility and the Government of Türkiye, offers essential assistance in various areas. These include the sustainable management of forests, land, and water resources, biodiversity conservation through agroecology practices, nature-based solutions, and climate-smart agriculture. The programme aims to boost food and nutrition security while also improving livelihoods. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the FAO–GEF Türkiye Programme embraces inclusivity and sustainability, with a particular focus on empowering women and youth for rural development and resilience. It addresses the challenges of poverty, climate change, biodiversity loss, and desertification. Türkiye strongly supports the vision of FAO and the four betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, in order to transform sustainable food systems which are key elements to achieve the SDGs. This insightful provides detailed information about the collaborative efforts between FAO and Türkiye.
