Synopsis (short abstract) The United States Agency for International Developed contributed USD 1 640 000 to FAO’s project entitled “Global Health Security Program for enhancing prevention, detection and response to emerging, re-emerging and endemic zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance threats in Egypt”. The project’s objective was to enhance the prevention, detection and response to zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance threats in Egypt by improving collaboration among key stakeholders, building national capacities and developing knowledge and policy instruments. A total of 655 trainees in the veterinary and livestock industries were trained outbreak investigation, disease diagnosis and reporting, strengthening Egypt’s capacities to detect, diagnose and respond to animal health threats.

    The United States of America contributed USD 2 974 318 to FAO’s project entitled “Risk mitigation and management of health threats from animals in Viet Nam”. The project’s objective was to strengthen animal health systems in order to reduce the risks and impact of emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and biothreats through an inclusive One Health approach. The project strengthened the information sharing capacities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to better mitigate risks and manage health threats from many different animals. It also improved the capacities of the Department of Animal Health and relevant stakeholders in early detection and response to avian influenza health threats, among other results.

    The Government of the United States of America contributed USD 980 000 to FAO’s project entitled “Immediate technical assistance for animal health systems to address emerging and priority zoonotic diseases and health threats in Cambodia”. The project’s objective was to strengthen animal health systems to reduce the risks and impacts of emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and biothreats through an inclusive One Health approach. The project enhanced national animal health preparedness, improved response capacities and strengthened One Health coordination, among other results.

The project’s objective was to improve capacities in animal disease outbreak prevention,preparedness and response using the One Health approach in order to reduce the risks and impacts of emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and biothreats. The project facilitated stronger multisectoral collaboration among animal health stakeholders and improved the knowledge, preparedness and response capacities of animal health services staff to prevent and address animal health threats, among other results.
