Synopsis (short abstract) The leaflet presents the methodologies used by the project “Strengthening Agro-climatic Monitoring and Information Systems (SAMIS) to improve adaptation to climate change and food security in Lao PDR” to get climate services to farmers. In collaboration with the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) and the Department of Agriculture and Land Management (DALaM) the project tested a number of pathways to give farmers access to the Lao Climate Service for Agriculture (LaCSA): village’ public announcement systems, radio, school posters, app, TV, and Farmer Field Schools (FFS).

If I put in less effort, I got even lower yields.” This is the statement expressed by Khammoun Heuangsouvantha prior to joining the Climate REAL project. His remark and rice output changed significantly after a year of engagement with the projecct. Hopes are high for the rice farming communities of Attapeu Province. Khammoun personally believes that there is no end to the learning and enrichment and that local farmers can benefit from continued support. It is hoped that in the next 5 to 10 years, villagers will be able to produce enough rice not only for their own families but also for sale. The potential to start a small agribusiness and gradually improve living conditions would be within reach. This is the life transforming story through the support from the Climate REAL project.

    The women-led Vegetable Production Group (VPG) was set up as a model to support women who seek to drive change for the benefits of their families and communities. The group is designed as a safe space for members to share experience and skills, while fostering networking opportunities with other groups. With the same desires and shared vision, the group can collectively achieve more together with higher impact, while each member can hone their own leadership styles and management skills. The intervention was made possible through the "Building Climate-Resilient and Eco-Friendly Agriculture Systems and Livelihoods in Lao People's Democratic Republic" project or Climate REAL project.This is the life transforming story through the support from the Climate REAL project.
