No results found. The most vulnerable and food-insecure populations in Colombia mainly live in rural areas, including women, indigenous peoples, afro-descendant communities, youth and refugees/migrants from Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of), due to the challenges they face linked to prolonged armed conflict and environmental degradation. As the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly spreading across Colombia strict but essential health-related containment measures have been implemented since the end of March. A spike in confirmed cases, particularly in some of the main urban areas, at the end of April forced the Government to reinstate restrictions in the most affected cities. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and related containment measures have generally impacted the food supply chain. While crop production has not been significantly affected by the containment measures, the livestock sector has been more affected. Overall, the challenges linked to marketing coupled with the slowdown of economic activities have reduced food access in the country. In the framework of the Global Humanitarian Response Plan for COVID-19, FAO has revised its humanitarian response for 2020 to mitigate the effects of the pandemic and address the needs of the most vulnerable households. -
