No results found.Uganda is a disaster-prone country affected by various types of hazards, with a 16 out of 191 countries ranking in terms of risk, driven by the increasing frequency, intensity and scale of disasters affecting the country. Flooding is among the top hazards, followed by droughts, epidemics and earthquakes. To reduce the impacts of the expected disaster, the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium contributed USD 1 million to FAO to implement immediate anticipatory actions to prepare the communities at risk to cope with the flooding and to enable fast recovery. -

No results found.Through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities (SFERA), the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium contributed USD 500 000 to FAO to mitigate the adverse impacts of two waves of devastating flash floods (May–June 2022) on the livelihoods and food security of vulnerable farming and fishing households. With Belgium’s generous support, FAO will provide 11 200 flood-affected farming and fishing households (56 000 people) with time-critical production inputs. The planned emergency assistance packages will enable the affected communities to restore their livelihoods, and increase crop and aquaculture production. The Central Emergency Response Fund will complement this project by funding interventions to support the livestock sector. This document provides a brief description of the current context of the intervention and highlights the importance of the contribution in enhancing the resilience of flood-affected communities. -

No results found.Zambia is experiencing a severe El Niño-induced drought that has resulted in reduced agricultural production, water scarcity and crop failure. So far, 1.8 million smallholder farmers have been significantly impacted. To mitigate the negative effects of the drought on food security, nutrition and livelihoods, while strengthening household food production in rural communities, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has received a contribution of USD 400 000 from the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium, through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities. This support will enable FAO to increase the production capacity of 1 040 drought-affected farming households (6 240 people) by providing agricultural inputs, including maize, soybean, common bean and cowpea seeds, and fertilizers. Additionally, the project will promote irrigated crop production using existing and new irrigation facilities, where possible, and support crop growth in wetlands through solar irrigation, depending on agro‑ecological zones and access to water.

This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.

No results found.The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018. -
