Synopsis (short abstract) AGROVOC plays a significant role in setting the standards as a common data model for representing and linking multilingual information from Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Food and other related domains resources unequivocally. Researchers, librarians, terminologist and information managers from international organizations leverage on AGROVOC as the controlled vocabulary to access, translate and share their knowledge collaboratively. Since 1982, AGROVOC has evolved from a tra ditional thesaurus to an ontology based OWL1 model and finally to a SKOSXL2 model. Based on the model, FAO3 built a web based vocabulary management tool called “VocBench” which can handle the multilinguality concurrently. This paper outlines the challenges of multilinguality in AGROVOC Concept Scheme, as well as the experiences and processes of converting multilingual information from heterogeneous data formats into the AGROVOC Knowledge Base.

    Ontology plays an important role in the enhancement performance of systems, addressing issues such as knowledge sharing, knowledge aggregation as well as information retrieval and question answering. This paper presents the AGROVOC Concept Server Workbench (ACSW) for multilingual ontological concept construction and maintenance. The ACSW is a web 2.0 based application consisting of two main functionalities that are user management and ontological knowledge management (i.e. concept, sch eme, relationship, export, search, validate and consistency check) in order to maintain the knowledge acquisition life-cycle in food and agriculture domain. Knowledge is stored in the form of multilingual concept hierarchy and also kept in the OWL format in order to exchange between machines and to do reasoning. This workbench uses Protégé API as an OWL framework. Moreover the Ontology Game conceptual framework is also presented in order to acquire ontology terms more pleasant.

    The Food and Agriculture Organization is developing a concept based multilingual vocabulary management tool to manage thesauri, authority lists and glossaries expressed as concept schemes ready to be used in a linked data environment. In this paper, we described the evolution of the AGROVOC thesaurus to AGROVOC Concept Scheme based on OWL (web ontology language) model and now shifting to SKOS (simple knowledge organization system) model. The paper explained why and how it evolved highlig hting the key differences between different models. The system architecture and significant set of features available in the VocBench was discussed in the paper.

The AGROVOC concept model, concepts and labels, and how AGROVOC uses the SKOS model and SKOS properties have been explained.     Between March and April 2019, many cases of suspected food poisoning were reported by health care workers in the Karamoja region of the Republic of Uganda. Consumption of food products that had high levels of tropane alkaloids was identified as the cause. This group of compounds occur in several plant genera that belong to the Solanaceae family and can contaminate staples like cereals and grains. Given the absence of international guidance and regulations, a Joint FAO/WHO Expert Meeting on Tropane Alkaloids was convened remotely between 30 March – 3 April 2020. This publication captures the discussions of the expert meeting and provides risks assessments of tropane alkaloids (hyoscyamine and scopolamine) as well as recommendations outlining appropriate risk management options.
