Synopsis (short abstract) FAO/INFOODS prepared this database to provide a tool for researchers and professionals to convert volume into weight and vice-versa. Data were collected from the literature, various national food composition tables and measurements conducted by the authors (see bibliography). Version 1.0 included density data for 214 food entries in 16 food groups from six sources and version 2.0 includes 638 foods entries in 20 food groups from 11 sources. For version 2, in addition to density data it was decid ed to also present data on specific gravity and to define the terms used. The data presented in this database are divided between density (including mass density and bulk density) and specific gravity. Like version 1.0, the data can be downloaded in Excel format from the INFOODS website. French version of this publication "Base de données FAO/INFOODS sur la densité.     Food matching links food consumption/supply data with food composition data. As food matching procedures are critical to obtaining high quality estimations of nutrient intakes (for nutrition purposes) or of dietary exposure (for food safety purposes), INFOODS developed these guidelines for a more harmonized approach to food matching while pointing out critical steps and information in order to achieve the most appropriate food matching. These guidelines are intended to assist in selecting the m ost appropriate foods (for which compositional data are available) to match to foods reported in food consumption surveys (at individual, household, national or international level) or to food supply data (e.g. FAOSTAT, EUROSTAT). In addition, food matching is important when compiling Food Composition Tables/ Databases (FCT/FCDB) including when filling missing data form other sources.     The Biodiversity Database is a global repository of analytical data on food biodiversity of acceptable data quality. It is hoped that in the future, more and better data will be available in order to further develop the Biodiversity Database and provide this essential tool for the investigation and promotion of the sustainable use of food biodiversity and for mainstreaming food biodiversity into nutrition projects, programmes and interventions.
