Synopsis (short abstract) La citricultura de América Latina y el Caribe, según datos de 2011, alcanza una superficie cultivada de 2.139.080 hectáreas, con una producción total de 38.126.922 toneladas (FAOSTAT, 2013), lo que la convierte en una parte importante de la economía en la mayoría de los países de la Región. Sin embargo, la citricultura en la Región está siendo amenazada por el Huanglongbing (HLB), considerada la enfermedad más devastadora de los cítricos a nivel mundial debido a los daños directos que ocasiona e n plantas y frutos, la dificultad de su diagnóstico temprano, su mecanismo de dispersión a través de insectos vectores, al rápido aumento del nivel de incidencia en huertos infectados, y a los elevados costos económicos y ambientales de su manejo. Por estas causas, el HLB ha ocasionado la eliminación de más de 100 millones de árboles en todo el mundo, está cambiando el manejo tradicional de la citricultura y, en algunas partes del mundo, está forzando a los pequeños productores a buscar otras op ciones productivas, al no contar con los medios, sobre todo económicos, para enfrentarla.

    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.
