No results found. The 2003 edition of the World statistical compendium for raw hides and skins, leather and leather footwear 1984–2002 is the tenth issue in a series that FAO started publishing in 1980 in response to the growing demand for coherent statistical data on hides, skins and derived products. This issue provides up-to-date information to 2002 on this heterogeneous group of commodities for both developed and developing countries. It is based on the same integrated approach used in the previous compendia, which compares fi gures for the subsequent stages of processing from raw hides to fi nished products for about 180 countries. Brief analytical notes highlighting the salient features and changes that have taken place in the sector over time have also been included. -

No results found. This document is the tenth edition of the World Statistical Compendium. The first issue was published in 1980 and substantially revised and updated in 1983, 1986, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2001. The present edition, prepared in response to the ever growing demand for coherent statistical data in the hides, skins and derived products sector, contains up-dated figures up to 2002. Country series have been revised in cases where new information has become available. An integrated approa ch used in the previous compendia has been adopted. The compendium contains results of statistical analysis of some 180 countries linking stages of processing from the raw hide to the finished product stage. The methodological approach adopted is described in more detail in the 1986 edition. The detailed statistical data on production, utilization and trade of hides and skins, leather and leather footwear are preceded by eleven summary tables and brief analytical notes highlighting the s alient features and changes which have taken place in the hides and skins and leather sector. Despite progress in enhancing the coherence and comparability of the data presented, shortcomings still exist. It is to be hoped that the work undertaken by the FAO Sub-Group on Hides and Skins will further advance progress in eliminating existing statistical deficiencies. -
